Dunsteel delivered Queanbeyan’s new Government Services Centre with dramatic folded roof plane and custom weathering-steel sunscreen louvres using REDCOR® weathering steel (grade HW350). The material was chosen for its ability to develop a rich patina over time, complementing the local brickwork and the rugged Monaro plains.
The bold, uncompromising design prioritises sustainability and low maintenance. REDCOR® naturally forms a protective rust layer, eliminating the need for paint and reducing long-term upkeep. The look will resemble the neighbouring brick buildings as the Service Centre ages.
This building has become a regional landmark, anchoring civic identity. It shows how the right material choice can celebrate heritage while creating a piece of striking, contemporary architecture.
