At the heart of Sydney, Dunsteel was proud to help create the new stage canopy at Tumbalong Green, a striking timber and steel composite structure that’s as much sculpture as it is shelter.
The design takes its cue from the site’s heritage, the canopy’s elegant, shell-like form nods to the area’s Gadigal name Tumbalong, meaning “the place where shellfish is found.”
Our scope focused on the structural steel framework, integrated with the timber diagrid to create the sweeping, cantilevered canopy anchoring this new outdoor venue. It’s a blend of craftsmanship and engineering that creates a space open, warm and enduring.
Projects like this remind us why we do what we do, building structures that bring people together and become part of the city’s story.
